This can be a factor when walking at altitudes above 2500m. Short sections of the Tour du Mont Blanc, The Haute Route Trek, and the Grand Tour of Monte Rosa are higher than this and some are above 3,000m. However all our treks start at a low altitude and most people who are reasonably fit acclimatise quickly anyway. For a small minority of walkers there might be a possibility of experiencing Acute Mountain Sickness. This is a feeling of slight headache, nausea and or breathlessness; these symptoms quickly dissipate on descent to lower altitudes. If you are worried about your medical or physical condition we recommend you take medical advice before booking.
Tourism is now a major industry and it makes a positive contribution to stabilising and revitalising rural communities by providing investment, income and employment. These are sound economic reasons for preserving and protecting the natural and traditional environment which are the very basis for the tourism. It's particularly important to us walkers therefore to do what we can to minimise any possible adverse effects of our activities on the environment. Walkabout walking policy is to make a positive contribution to the principles of Responsible Travel.
Walkabout Walking do not have a brochure.
We strive to reduce paper consumption by developing our website and electronic literature. We try to reduce the amount of paper materials that we produce and recycle as much of the paper we use as possible.
We specialise on walking holidays in Europe and the amount of air travel we generate is small. We are not major contributors to the adverse impact that air travel has on global warming.
We uphold and promote environmental and mountaineering ethics as responsible walkers.
We support local communities.
It's particularly important to us, with our base in Llanberis, to support local economies, which we believe we do by bringing work and cash into the community. Our activities help to conserve the unique natural and cultural assets that make walking in our chosen parts of the U.K. and Europe so special.
