About Walkabout.

Walkabout Walking Holidays is a subsidiary of Mountain Ventures Ltd. The company has over 40 years experience of organising walking holidays and other mountain activities. These include training professional mountain leaders and enabling clients to make ascents of peaks such as Mont Blanc, Matter horn and the Eiger.

Safety in the Mountains.

Safety in the mountains is a product of good experienced leadership which ensures careful route selection, good decision making and sensitive party management. Our chosen walking routes follow safe well marked paths. Our leaders are competent, trained and qualified to lead the walks. Leader to client ratios are consistent with best practise as recognised by the UK Mountain Leader Training Board. Leaders have the flexibility to fine tune and adjust programmes in response to people's interests, fitness on the day and the weather. Our Flexibility to match the programme of walks to the fitness and ambitions of the group and the weather conditions is a prerequisite for your safe enjoyment of the holiday.

How is the group organized, managed and led?

Each holiday is managed and coordinated usually by one of our leaders. Informal advice and guidance is readily available on any issues related to your walking holiday, before, during and after the walk.

We hold daily meetings when the group are briefed about the day's walks. We discuss what to take, the route, pace, time, distance, the weather, the composition of the group and how people are feeling. This regular process of briefing and discussion helps us decide which walks will be most suitable on any particular day.

We suggest a programme of evening and, if required, rest day (or half day) activities to meet your interests. Our aim is to ensure you have the opportunity to experience as much as possible of the food and drink, music and culture characteristic of your chosen venue.
